Coming to a new school can be scary, so we want to help to make new students feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. To help us achieve this goal, we ask you, our Student Council members, to act as Ambassadors for Frink and introduce our new students to the school and help them to settle in. The Ambassador who will help to welcome our new student will be the Ambassador who has the same Core 1 class as the new student. Their responsibilities are as follows:
First Day
On the first day, the new student will follow you around to all the core classes. If possible, you should sit next to or near the new student in order to help him/her with the daily class routines. Help him/her in the lunch line then invite him/her to eat lunch with you and your friends. Your first responsibility is to be a friendly support for the new student.
Communicate all the things a new student needs to know:
Where can students wait in the mornings?
What do I do if I want to eat breakfast?
What happens when the first bell rings?
Do bells ring throughout the day?
Do I have a Homeroom?
What supplies do I need?
How much time do I have between classes, and can I really make it across campus in that time?
When do I go to my locker?
What are directives? Which ones have you taken? Did you like them? Can you give me any advice about dealing with the teacher?
How does lunch work? How do I get my food? Where do I throw away my trash?
Where do I sit during lunch?
Am I allowed to get back into the line to get more food? Am I allowed to get up at all?
What do you do during PE? Do I have to dress out? Where do I change? What happens if I forget my clothes?
What do I do if I come in late one day?
What do I do if I get sick at school?
If I have a doctor's appointment, can I leave school? How do I or my parents make that happen?
What do I do if I miss a day of school?
Where do I go at the end of the day?
Introduce the new students to the ADULTS in the building they will need to know:
Teachers on your team
Directive Studies teachers
Mrs. Holleman, Mrs. Crews, and Mrs. Thomas in the office
Mr. Corey and Mrs. Gray in the office
Mrs. Price and Mrs. Jones in the Media Center
Mrs. Foye and the other lunch ladies in the cafeteria
Mrs. McClung and Ms. Gelman in the Student Services Department
Introduce the new students to your FRIENDS and other students who come up to introduce themselves.
Second Day
Check in with the new student at each class change and make sure they know where to go to find their classes. Eat lunch with the new student and introduce him or her to people in their classes.
